Global Corporate Challenge 2010 Results

Huge congratulations to the 70 SBC staff who last week completed the Global Corporate Pedometer Challenge 2010. The average office worker takes 2-3,000 steps a day, woefully short of the 10,000 a day needed to reduce the risks of cardiovascular disease and other mortality reducing illnesses. Participants wear pedometers for the 111 days of the challenge and log their daily steps, cycling and swimming distances can also be recorded.

SBC participants averaged an amazing 13,485 steps per day and between them walked the equivalent of 1.8 times around the equator. Our teams also reported the following well-being changes-

  • 71% reported an increase in their overall health and wellbeing
  • 69% reported an increase in their energy
  • 38% reported an increase in ability to handle stress
  • 42% reported an increase in quality of sleep
  • 55% reported a loss in weight, with the total weight loss 124 kgs / 273 pounds, and the average weight loss 5 kgs / 11 pounds

The full report can seen here.
