Cycling Through the Years

Over 50s cycling

Cycling Through the Years is an eight-week cycling course aimed at adults over 50 years of age. It starts off at the County Ground Athletics Track where participants receive cycling training aimed at complete beginners. You will then gently progress to cycling on cycle paths and then cycling on roads. The structure of the course will depend on how quickly the group progresses, but you should leave the course with basic bike maintenance and road safety awareness.

You can bring your own bike and helmet but if you don't have your own, we can provide them for you!

  • Learn to cycle or regain your confidence on a bike
  • Start in a safe cycling environment
  • Develop your cycling skills, stamina and fitness
  • Discover parts of Swindon on cycle paths
  • Meet like-minded individuals and make some friends

The potential benefits of learning to cycle include:

  • improved quality of life
  • weight management
  • higher energy levels
  • improved mobility
  • reduced stress and anxiety
  • controlled blood pressure
  • reduced risk of heart disease
  • improved circulatory system including heart and lungs
  • increased muscular strength
  • a low-cost environmentally friendly means of travel

The classes are FREE to the over 50s, but we welcome beginners of a younger age for a £25 donation. People who have never ridden before or haven't ridden a bike for years are now happily cycling to the shops and even joining our monthly Social Bike Rides.
