Street Athletics in Swindon
Undiscovered young athletes were invited to “Prove it on the Streets” of Swindon alongside two Olympic Gold sprint stars. Olympic Gold medallists Linford Christie and Darren Campbell hosted this major event, in the Broadgreen area of the town, which was free of charge and open to all young people between the ages of 11 and 20.
Despite the relentless rain, around 150 young people from across the borough took part in the 60metre sprints. The top three girls and boys from each age group (U13/U15/U17/U20) competed against athletes from 10 other cities at the finals in Manchester.

Linford Christie said “Street Athletics is an amazing project now in its fifth year. We have seen thousands of young people taking part in races across the country. We’re hugely excited about being in Swindon with Street Athletics in an attempt to seek out the best raw talent the country has to offer.”
Street Athletics is already up and running in other parts of the England including London, Folkstone, Luton, Blackburn and Manchester.
