Swindon Health Walks is looking for volunteers to become walk leaders to support and lead current walks and/or establish new walks in new areas.  The long-term aim is to have a wide range of walks available in a wide selection of areas across the Borough.

Are you:

  • Enthusiastic
  • A good organiser
  • Observant
  • Patient and approachable
  • A good communicator
  • Punctual and reliable

If you answered yes to all of the above then you would make a great Walk Leader, so read on!

Health Walks are intended to help anyone who would like to increase their current levels of physical activity on a regular basis. Undertaken regularly, Health Walks will assist the walker achieve the benefit of increased fitness, improved health, a sense of well-being and help maintain mobility, independence and quality of life.

What does it take to become a Walk Leader?

The volunteer walk leader training is a full day course and is a participatory training day which covers:

  • The benefits of physical activity
  • Identifying barriers to physical activity
  • Motivating people to walk
  • A demonstration health walk
  • Components of a health walk
  • Monitoring safety
  • How to lead a walk
