Challenge Swindon
More Active, More Often!
Welcome.
As part of an ongoing drive to increase physical activity levels the Leisure Services Team at Swindon Borough Council are offering fantastic opportunities to participate in sporting events and get involved in their community through volunteering.
Challenge Swindon Legacy Road Shows
As part of our strategy leading up to the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games, Leisure Services are launching the Challenge Swindon Legacy Road Show.
A specially designed road show trailer will be promoting health and fitness opportunities that are provided by both public and private sector partners, offering incentives to the community to be 'More Active, More Often'.
The road shows will take place across the town, visiting shopping centres, schools, colleges, local companies and other places of interest. We will also use established events and programmes as a platform to promote our vision. The main thrust of the Legacy project is marketing, branding and campaigning for a greater awareness of the benefits of physical activity.
The overall rationale of the project is to respond to the national target of increasing participation in physical activity 1% year on year. Swindon has a wealth of opportunities and is successful in getting people active once or twice a week, however our new challenge is to get the residents of Swindon partaking in physical activity for a minimum of three times per week.
In Sport England's recent 'Active People' survey, Swindon recorded a 19.5% participation rate: below the national average of 22.6%.
If you would like to take advantage of this opportunity for your organisation, please contact Nikki Green on 01793 511033 for further details.
