About the Award

The Duke of Edinburgh Award is a challenging programme of activities which will help you to learn new skills, help others and experience adventure and it will give you a great sense of achievement. What’s more, many organizations such as employers and universities take a good view of the Award and what it says about the person who has achieved it.

There are three levels to the award - Bronze, Silver and Gold – and, for each, you complete activities in four sections – Service, Skills, Physical Recreation and Expeditions. At the Gold level you also take part in a residential project which can take a variety of forms.

Each section contains a wide variety of choices and it’s up to you which one’s you do. Your award leader will help you pick the best choices for you, or you may even chose to undertake other similar activities – the Award is very flexible about new ideas and options. You could pick something completely new or continue with an activity you already enjoy.

Why do the Award

There are many reasons to do the award and the benefits are great. It will not only help when trying to get a place at College, University or a new Job but will also help you develop as a person. Many people feel the process of successfully completing The Award helps develop confidence, independence and communication skills as well as developing more practical and physical skills through expeditions and other practical activities
