Preventing Risk
For a variety of reasons buildings and other structures can become dangerous. This could present a risk to the general public and in the case of fires a risk to fire-fighters.
When we are notified or see a potential dangerous structure a Building Control Surveyor will call out to inspect any may require works to be carried out to make it safe. Usually this can be achieved with the co-operation of the building owner, problems are normally resolved quickly, but if necessary we will take legal action.
In cases where there could be an immediate danger it may be necessary to take emergency action, requiring works to be undertaken with the minimum of delay. Again we always seek the co-operation of the building owners before resorting to formal legal action.
If you see a building or structure that looks to be unsafe please contact us with as much information as possible including the names of owners if you have them. If it is outside normal office hours you will usually be put through to an emergency line. They will pass the message onto us. If it is a fire then, of course, call the fire brigade, they will contact us if they need us.
