Sports Grounds Safety Certificate

Safety at Sports Grounds Act 1975 and Fire Safety and Safety of Places of Sports Act 1987

For stadia with a capacity of over 10,000 or for stands with a capacity of over 1,000 people, a safety certificate is required.

Additionally, a certificate is required for any stadium (regardless of its capacity) where league football (Barclays Premiership or Coca-Cola Championship, League One or League Two) matches are to be played.

The completed application form should be accompanied by:

  • Risk assessments
  • Contingency plans
  • Your safety policy for spectators
  • The name and qualifications of the safety officer
  • Eight full sets of detailed drawings of the stadium

The reasonable costs of the local authority incurred in production of the safety certificate will be charged to the applicant.
