Housing

Money to Move

The Money to Move Scheme

The Money to Move Scheme is for secure tenants of Swindon Borough Council only, who are registered for a transfer.

The scheme offers a grant of £1,000 to any secure tenant (one grant payment per household) who wishes to move out of their 2, 3 or 4-bedroomed house, into a 1-bedroomed, non-family-type property (please see definition below). You need to have a clear rent account and your property needs to be in good condition and inspected by a housing department surveyor. Once you have moved and returned all the keys to your old property, the grant will be paid directly into your bank account.

The scheme accepts a maximum 30 applications in any one financial year and is on a "first come, first served" basis. Once the total has been reached for that year, no more applications can be made.

The resulting vacancies will be advertised on Swindon Home Bid, for families accepted as homeless by Swindon Borough Council.

If you are eligible, have been shortlisted for a property after a successful bid through Swindon Home Bid and wish to apply for a Money To Move Scheme grant, please contact your own Neighbourhood Housing Officer or the Housing Needs Team on 01793 463181.

For more information, please contact the Housing Needs Team on 01793 463181. There is also an information leaflet that is available to download as a pdf file:
