Rural Speed Management - Badbury
What is this about? - Halcrow is currently working with Swindon Borough Council to assist in the delivery of its Local Transport Plan (LTP) programme. One of the villages identified for a rural speed management scheme is Badbury. A budget of approximately £10,000 has been made available through LTP funding to implement a scheme for Badbury before the end of March 2008.
What have we done to date? - We have been aware for some time of local concerns that can now be addressed through the Local Transport Plan. In light of this Halcrow have had a number of meetings with Ward Councillors, Parish Councillors and representatives from Badbury to understand the current traffic related issues? As a result a proposal has been drawn for you to look at and comment. A simple sketch of the proposal is attached and includes:
- Moving the 30 mph speed limit up to the junction with the A346;
- Making the junction with the A346 less inviting for through traffic by adding a central island, tightening the kerb radius and including village speed limit signs;
- Upgrading the village gateway with countryside kerbing and new signs;
- Creating a coloured footpath strip in the village;
- Installing junction warning signs prior to the ‘triangle’, and
- Introducing a 30mph speed limit at Meadow Way
We would like your views – A copy of the plans and feedback sheets will be available in The Bakers Arms for one week commencing 4th February 2008 or by using the links below.
If you are unable to visit the Bakers Arms additional copies of the drawings and feedback sheets will be available from Peter Hayman of ‘Lansdown’ in Badbury who can be contacted on 01793 740386.
I hope that you can find some time to look at the drawings and give us your comments by filling out the feedback sheets.
What next? – Your comments (73Kb PDF Feedback Form) will be used to develop the scheme which will be put forward to Swindon Borough Council and Ward Councillors for final approval.
Timescales – In order to start the work before the end of March 2008 an order to the Contractor will need to be placed as soon as possible. This means that the final design must be completed later in February 2008. Should you require information in another language or an alternative format, please contact Customer Services, telephone number 01793 463725.
Yours sincerely
Halcrow Group
