Residential Estates and Industrial Units
All developers of both residential and commercial properties must forward a location plan and a site plan which shows all the plots concerned marked with plot numbers.
For all developments of more than five residential properties, or for any development of commercial units, the site plan must include a paper copy and a copy on CD in CAD format.
Once the site has been named and numbered, the properties will be registered with the Royal Mail and the address data will be circulated to all interested parties, including emergency services and statutory undertakers.

Individual New Properties
All new individual properties within the Borough of Swindon must be registered with Swindon Borough Council for the purposes of naming and numbering, and a site plan must be provided.
The Council will contact the Royal Mail for the issue of postcodes for new properties. The Royal Mail will not issue registered postal addresses direct to developers or owners of new properties.
Once the property has been registered, the Council will undertake to notify the emergency services and statutory undertakers.
