Swindon Borough Council's Staff Travel Plan

The Council as Swindon's largest employer, is currently developing it's own Travel Plan to help manage the impact of it's activities and in order to provide staff with more travel choice.

Some of the measures that have been implemented or are currently being considered include:

Buses

  • Discussing discounted travel for staff with the bus companies
  • Exploring the possibility of salary sacrifice for season ticket loans
  • Exploring the possibility of discounted Park & Ride tickets
  • Improving access to bus-related information

Pedestrians

Defining a walking network, maps etc, and providing safety information

Bicycles

  • Defining a bicycle network, maps etc
  • Reviewing current secure storage, shower facilities etc, and identifying additional needs
  • Exploring the possibility of bicycle maintenance service
  • Exploring the possibility of bicycle safety training
  • Introducing salary sacrifice scheme for the purchase of bikes
  • Increasing the bicycle mileage allowance.

Car Sharing

  • Reviewing options for software to match car share partners
  • Exploring the possibility of allocating priority car parking for any car sharers

Car-Parking Facilities

Undertaking a  staff questionnaire to understand more about the travel characteristics of staff and to seek views on alternative travel arrangements such as car sharing, cycling and public transport

Following analysis and further consultation, we will be looking to develop a car parking strategy for the Council.
