To meet the requirements of the Data Protection Act 1998, schools need to issue a Fair Processing Notice to pupils and/or parents summarising the information held about pupils, why it is held, and the third parties to whom it may be passed on.
The Department for Children Schools and Families (DCSF) suggested Fair Processing Notice comes in two parts. This new format follows the design laid down by the Information Commissioner.
- The summary ("layer 1") - about one to two pages
- The full text ("layer 2") - four pages
The summary will have been issued to parents/pupils by schools.
