Council and Democracy

Religion and Belief

Introduction

Swindon Borough Council works towards promoting a cohesive community. Part of this work is valuing the expression of any faith (or no faith), provided that these views do not discriminate against the human rights of others on account of their age, gender, race, disability or sexual orientation.

Our legal obligations are contained in the Employment Equality (Religion or Belief) Regulations 2003 and only cover employees. However, Swindon Borough Council goes beyond legislation and promotes religious equality for service users. This applies to all our activities as an employer and service provider including in our commissioned and procured services.

Implementing and conducting non-discriminatory practices and policies

We assess the impact of our practices on religious equality by carrying our Diversity Impact Assessments on all policies to ensure religious equality and that all work supports our Equalities on the basis of Religion and Belief.

This part of our website is dedicated to some of the Council's activities designed to improve interfaith relations. We will review it each year but if you think we can improve our site, please feel free to give us your feedback.
